The Reflection of the Orient machine embroidery designs includes 18 designs inspired by my trip to Japan. The beauty of the Koi fish and the blossoms influenced this collection. I used these designs to create various items, including a beautiful apron for my son-in-law Matt, a lovely jumper and dress for my daughter Charley, as well as placemats, hand towels, and cushions. When working on the Koi fish designs, I encountered an issue with variegated thread, which did not produce the desired effect. To remedy this, I stitched over the variegated thread using a gold metallic thread. This not only salvaged the design but also added a beautiful shimmer to the Koi. Although stitching over the original thread made the Koi a bit stiff, the final result was stunning. This experience taught me a valuable tip: if a chosen thread colour does not turn out as expected, try stitching over it with a metallic thread. Metallic threads are thinner and can enhance the design without overwhelming it.
