Helpful hints regarding colour for embroidery
Colour attracts our notice, plays a strong part in determining whether we like or do not like an embroidery design. As embroiders we cannot mix colour as though we are painting on a canvas; we must rely on threads. It is important for us to understand colour
A colour circle, based on red, yellow and blue, is traditional in the field of art. Sir Isaac Newton developed the first circular diagram of colours in 1666. Ever since then scientists and artists have studied and designed many variations of this concept. Many differences of opinion about the validity of one format over another continue to provoke debate to this very day. With most, any colour circle or colour wheel which presents a logically arranged sequence of pure hues has merit.
PRIMARY COLORS
Red, yellow and blue
In colour theory, these are the 3 pigment colours that can not be mixed or formed by any or all combination of other colours. All other colours are derived from these 3 hues
SECONDARY COLORS
Green, orange and purple
TERTIARY COLORS
Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green and yellow-green.
These are the colours formed by mixing a primary and a secondary colour. That is why the hue is a two word name, such as blue-green, red-violet, and yellow-orange.

I used 3 black glass buttons on the reverse side of the cushion from the 1950’s they came from a coat my Mother had apparently, as you can see in the photograph due to the buttons being made of glass they have small chips out of them, but the cushion from the back still looks great, a nice way of using old button.
