Instructions to make the Egyptian Quilt

  • Select suitable fabrics. I used yellow and black fabrics.
  • Cut out six pieces of yellow fabric of size 12 x 12 inches (30 x 30cm).
  • Centre, then sew each one of the first six Egypt designs on each piece of fabric.
  • Cut out six pieces of black fabric of size 12 x 12 inches (30 x 30cm).
  • Centre, then sew the egyptf design on each piece of black fabric. Ensure that you leave sufficient space for a border around each design. I suggest 9 x 9 inches (24 x 24 cms).
  • The following instructions are for the border surrounding the first six designs. Figure No. 1 shows the stitches used:-
  • Draw a line 1cm away from the design. Sew along the line using stitch No. 73 L=8.0 W=6.0, stitch density .30 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 w=3.0 in gold Madeira No. 8.
  • Repeat stitch No. 73 in blue Gutermann No. 386.
  • Repeat stitch No. 02 in gold Madeira No. 8.
  • Repeat stitch No. 73 in tan Gutermann No. 221.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Sew over the top of the black satin stitch, using stitch No. 111 L=3.0 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • The following instructions are for the border surrounding the egyptf design. Figure No. 2 shows the stitches used:-
  • Draw a line 1cm away from the design. Sew along the line using stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=4.5 in tan Gutermann No. 221.
  • Stitch No. 02 l=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 161 (mirror) L=12 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch over both white satin stitches with stitch No. 111 L=3.0 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 000. Ensure that this is stitched last.
  • Assemble all the quilt blocks. Three across, four down.
  • Cut four strips of fabric for the first border of the quilt. Figure No. 4 shows the stitches used.
  • Stitch No. 161 (mirror) L=12 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=4.5 in tan Gutermann No. 221.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 161 (mirror) L=12 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=4.5 in tan Gutermann No. 221.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in white Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch No. 161 (mirror) L=12 W=6.0 in Gutermann No. 800.
  • Stitch over all white satin stitches with stich No. 111 L=3.0 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 000. Ensure that this is stitched last.
  • Cut four strips of fabric for the second border of the quilt. Figure No. 3 shows the stitches used.
  • Stitch No. 161 (mirror) L=12 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.30 W=4.5 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Stitch No. 73 L=8.0 W=6.0, stitch density .30 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Stitch no. 02 L=.03 W=3.0 Madeira gold No. 8.
  • Stitch No. 73 L=8.0 W=6.0 stitch density .30 in blue Gutermann No. 386.
  • Stitch No. 02 L=.03 W=3.0 in gold Madeira No. 8.
  • Stitch No. 73 L=8.0 W=6.0 stitch density .30 in tan Gutermann No. 221.
  • stitch no. 02 L=.30 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 000.
  • Stitch over black satin stitch with stitch No. 111 L=3.0 W=6.0 in black Gutermann No. 800. Ensure that this is stitched last.
